چکیده

Presented herein is a methodology for the seismic and hydraulic assessment of the re-liability of urban water distribution networks (UWDN) based on general seismic assessment standards, as per the American Lifelines Alliance (ALA) guidelines, localized historical records of critical risk-of-failure metrics pertaining to the specific UWDN under assessment, and hydraulic simulations using adapted EPANET models. The proposed methodology is applicable to UWDN under either normal or abnormal operating conditions (such as intermittent water supply), and the assessment of reliability incorporates data of past non-seismic damage, the vulnerabilities of the network components against seismic loading, hydraulic modelling, and the topology of an UWDN. The network reliability is subsequently assessed using Graph Theory, while the system reliability is calculated using Monte Carlo simulation coupled with a hydraulic analysis identifying various methodology options for hydraulic quantity evaluation and hence hydraulic network performance. The methodology proposed is demonstrated on a real-scale district metered area (DMA) in a city-wide UWDN.

VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT OF WATER DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS: GRAPH THEORY METHOD

The main functional purpose of a water distribution network is to transport water from a source to several domestic and industrial units while at the same time satisfying various requirements on hydraulic response. All the water distribution networks perform two basic operations: firstly the water network needs to deliver adequate amounts of water to meet specific requirements, and secondly the...

Entropy-based Serviceability Assessment of Water Distribution Networks, Subjected to Natural and Man-Made Hazards

In this study a modified entropy-based measure is presented for evaluating the serviceability level of water distribution networks in which the hydraulic uncertainties (flow rates in pipes) as well as the uncertainties due to mechanical parameters (failure probabilities of links) are considered simultaneously. In the proposed entropy calculation method, the connectivity order of the network dem...

Particle Swarm Optimization for Hydraulic Analysis of Water Distribution Systems

The analysis of flow in water-distribution networks with several pumps by the Content Model may be turned into a non-convex optimization uncertain problem with multiple solutions. Newton-based methods such as GGA are not able to capture a global optimum in these situations. On the other hand, evolutionary methods designed to use the population of individuals may find a global solution even for ...

A Survey On the Vulnerability Parameters of Networks

The analysis of vulnerability in networks generally involves some questions about how the underlying graph is connected. One is naturally interested in studying the types of disruption in the network that maybe caused by failures of certain links or nodes. In terms of a graph, the concept of connectedness is used in dierent forms to study many of the measures of vulnerability. When certain vert...

Saltwater intrusion vulnerability assessment using AHP-GALDIT model in Kashan plain aquifer as critical aquifer in a semi-arid region

Owing to population growth and water demand, coastal aquifers all over the world are over–pumped, resulting in serious problems such as saltwater intrusion. So, in these conditions, assessing the groundwater system’s vulnerability and finding areas with saltwater intrusion potential are vital for the better management of aquifers. In this study, AHP-GALDIT was applied to saltwater intrusion vul...
